Volunteer at the Hoedown

Are you ready to dance?  We hope so!  Many of you have volunteered at the Emerald City Hoedown in the past and have helped to make it a success.  For those of you who haven’t participated before, we hope you will join us… it is rewarding (it will feed your karma), you’ll meet new folks, and you’ll have fun doing it, too.  Help make this year the biggest and best Hoedown yet.

Here are some of the volunteer roles we need (there will be more).  You will note that many of these don't interfere with dance workshopos or evening dances at all.   If you can donate just one or two hours of your time, that will help a lot!

  • Registration desk
  • Transporting dance floor and other equipment (Wednesday evening and on Monday)
  • Setting up and breaking down sound equipment and dance floors (Thursday afternoon/evening, Sunday afternoon, and Monday)
  • Setup and staffing for the eye-openers, socials, and after-hours parties
  • Workshops assistants, to help instructors with their music in the large ballrooms
  • Decorating the ballrooms (during the dinner break on Friday and Saturday)
  • Door monitors during evening dances

You can sign up for an existing volunteer shift right here:

If you have any questions, please contact our volunteer coordinators (Ken, Jen, and lipsky) at to get on our volunteers email list.

Work/Registration Trade

We know some dancers may be unable to to attend at regular registration rates, and we don’t want to turn anyone away.

We have made provision for work/registration trade, where we can discount registration rates for volunteers contributing a larger block of volunteer time, more than just an hour or two.  If this option is something that you need, please contact Ken, Jen, and lipsky at

Tyler Goolsby Scholarship

The IAGLCWDC has a scholarship named for dancer Tyler Goolsby, providing registration and travel assistance funds to help dancers with need to attend IAGLCWDC convention hoedowns.   For more information and to apply, visit this webpage.
