Social Events

In addition to over 30 hours of dance workshops and four evening dances, the 2024 Emerald City Hoedown will feature a number of Social Events aimed at giving you the best hoedown experience possible.  We want to make sure you come away feeling not just that you have attended a great hoedown but that you have done so with great people in a great city… so you’ll want to come back again soon!  Most of our social events will take place in the Hospitality Suite, room TBD.

(The following list is preliminary and subject to change.  But we have been pretty concistent with these for a few years, so it is pretty accurate.)

Please note: due to staffing and budget limitations for this year’s hoedown, when we say “light snacks” below, we mean the likes of chips and cookies rather than a make-it-yourserlf sandwich spread or the like.  Sorry!

Welcome Social

The Hospitality Suite will be open from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday afternoon.  Relax with some light snacks, beverages, and reconnect with your friends before the dancing starts!

Women’s Meet and Greet

Join other women in the 1st floor Lobby Bar before the Trail-In Dance.  This is a trans-inclusive event; if you feel that you should be at the Women’s Meet & Greet, we are happy to have you there.  No-host bar; food available to order.

After Hours

Close down the day — or keep the party going! — with some light snacks and late night beverages in the Hospitality Suite.

Eye Openers

First thing in the morning, before any of the workshops start, the Hospitality Suite will be providing coffee, juice, and light morning munchies to get you going.

Women’s Social or Men’s Social or Trans/NB Social

During the workshop break at lunchtime on Friday, lunchtime on Saturday, and late afternoon Saturday, we will have our three gender-oriented socials.   Which one will be at which time is not yet set.

We are looking for one or two people to host each of these socials — to craft the sort of social they want to see, with a small budget to arrange food, etc.   If a given social doesn't have a designated host, the Hospitality Suite will be open for you to gather and socialize, with only hotel water service provided.   Want to be the host for one of the socials?   Contact volunteer@emeraldcityhoedown.com.

Wizard’s Reception (VIP Social)

A light meal and beverages will be provided in the Hospitality Suite for our “Friend of Dorothy” host sponsors, instructors, DJs, hoedown staff, and other select VIPs on Friday from 5:00–7:00 pm.  Vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available and ingredients labeled where possible.
