Tourist Activities

We know that for many of our attendees, the trip to Seattle for the Emerald City Hoedown will be part of your main vacation for the year, and many others will be coming in a day or two early or staying a day or two after to do a little sightseeing.  And we want to encourage those with partners who don’t dance or only dance a little to bring them along.  We are arranging for a variety of tourist activities during and around the weekend.

Thursday, May 23

Whale Watching

For those who will be in all day Thursday, we are arranging for a Whale Watching trip up to the San Juan Islands  The trip is scheduled to leave early morning and return in time for dinner.

Seattle Sightseeing

We will arrange for details to be available on self-directed tours of Seattle attractions, including the Seattle Art Museum, Pioneer Square and Underground Seattle, ferry rides to Bremerton or Bainbridge Island, Pike Place Market, and Seattle Center (featuring the Space Needle, the Chihuly Garden and Glass, the Experience Music Project, and the Science Fiction Museum), and the Museum of Flight.

The gay neighborhood in Seattle is only a mile from the hotel.  We will visit several of the bars, including Rain Country’s home bar, the Cuff Complex, and end up at the Century Ballroom for not just dancing, but two separate rooms of dancing!

Ride the Ducks!

A Ducks tour boat will meet us at the hotel and take you on a tour of downtown Seattle and Lake Union.  This tour will overlap with the Saturday afternoon dance competition.

Sunday, May 26

Flash Mob Dance Tour

After brunch, work off the food and join us on a walking and transit tour of several nearby sites, including some line and swing dance “flash mob” dancing at each spot, culminating at the Seattle Center so you can be sure to not miss the Space Needle.
